Jocelyn Rice is a mother and the interdisciplinary creative behind Black Earth United, an apparel and artistic practice focused on regenerative fashion (with partial upcycling), including Black Quantum Futures workshops that blend sustainability, ancestry, community empowerment, and a love for the planet. She has been a guest lecturer and guest educator at PNCA, OSU, and PSU, and her art has been a part of installations for MoCADA in Brooklyn, "Terra Incognita" in Troutdale, and "Nature's Embrace" in Portland, each reflecting her unique blend of land art and apparel design expertise. Each interactive exhibit offers immersive experiences that further establish her influence on the intersection between humans and nature.
Her design work has been recognized in Vogue and OK Magazine and has won awards from Ski Magazine, Outside Magazine, and Backpacker Magazine. She is dedicated to raising Black Women's voices in outdoor design fields, providing mentorship, sharing her stories, and activating communities. Jocelyn believes we are more than our roles and titles. She's a storyteller, an enthusiast of wild spaces, and a champion of Black outdoor history. Through her work, she invites us all to explore narratives of liberation in outdoor apparel, appreciate the wild spaces within and around us, and see the power of every story finding its place.
